Maggie Sokolik received her PhD in Applied Linguistics from UCLA. She taught at a number of institutions, including MIT, Harvard, Texas A&M, and Northern Arizona University, before settling down at UC Berkeley, where she has taught writing for the past 19 years. She is the author of several textbooks, and the editor of TESL-EJ: The Electronic Journal for English as a Second Language (http://tesl-ej.org). She lives in the Bay Area in California, but likes to go other places often.
